Long Live Quilting!

Hi! We are Quilty and Red, owners of Sew Quilty. As long-time quilters who met as busy moms raising busy boys, we share a passion for all things quilting! Like quilts, the fabric of our friendship is sewn together stitch by stitch. Whether shopping for fabric (can you ever have too much fabric?), paging through quilting magazines planning the next project, or making memories over the sounds of sewing machines at "Quiltfest" - we just love quilting.

We first packed up our sewing machines, scissors, and snacks (well, maybe some wine too) over 16 years ago to start Quiltfest - a retreat that allowed us time to focus on our craft. What began as a long weekend event with a few friends, grew to include additional days and more quilt-loving friends. Today Quiltfest is held 2-3 times a year for as long as 5 nights. Every minute spent quilting with friends is good for the soul.

As an avid scrapbooker, I love to piece together layouts that capture life's most precious memories. It only took one weekend at Quiltfest and I found a new hobby - I haven't stopped quilting since! Scrapbooking and quilting are both gifts of time and memories to share with those you love. I am drawn to the colors and patterns of a great civil war quilt, but stars and Americana quilts are my favorite.

After working in a law firm for 24 years, I recently retired to focus on turning my love of quilting into our Sew Quilty business. I live with my husband, Jeff, in Hamburg, Minnesota. We are proud parents to two grown boys who are off pursuing their own dreams.

My love for quilting started over 25 years ago when I accepted an invite from my neighbor to quilt a project she had put up on a rack. I was hooked! My first quilt was hand-pieced as I didn't have a sewing machine. I traced each shape of fabric and hand-cut each piece. While the purchase of a sewing machine, cutting board, and rotary cutter made quilting much quicker, I will always remember making my first quilt.

I live with my husband, Chris, in Glencoe, Minnesota. I am a physician in a small town with three grown boys. And while I have always loved being a mom, there is nothing like being a grandma to our adorable, smart, funny, and all amazing grandson, Lukas. So many quilts and Halloween costumes to be made!
